Investing in Sustainable Initatives
We don't just talk about taking action when it comes to sustainability - we make it happen.
We know that by investing in sustainable ‘green’ initiatives, we can help reduce our environmental impact and create a healthier future for ourselves and generations to come. To date, we have spearheaded a number of sustainable initiatives that are affordable and benefit our community.
Sustainability for your Business
Cardboard Recycling
Every year we divert over 265,000kg of cardboard waste from landfills, ensuring that it is getting recycled locally at a Paper Mill in New Zealand. This circular service is a great example of how we like to keep our sustainable initiatives local and affordable for customers.
Sustainability Reporting
We provide sustainability reports and waste audits for our business customers. This means our business customers can better understand their environmental impacts, and we assist our customers to develop more effective strategies for reducing their carbon footprint.
Commodity Recycling
Recycling is an essential part of protecting our environment and reducing waste. We offer a full suite of recycling services for paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal and electronics. Last year, we proudly diverted 176,160kg of commodity recycling.
Our Local Initiatives
EcoPay - Less waste, fewer costs
For customers in Upper Hutt and Whanganui, we have a new wheelie bin service called EcoPay. This sustainability-focused wheelie bin service only charges you when you put your bins out, meaning the less waste you put out, the more money you save. Available in 80L & 120L bin sizes, be rewarded in savings for being a low-waste producer. This initiative has seen great success, with customers being incentivised to create less waste and be more mindful of the waste quantities they are producing.
Green Waste to Compost
We've started a new green waste service in parts of Wairarapa, Upper Hutt, Porirua and the Kapiti Coast. By separating the green waste into its own wheelie bin, we can divert it from landfills where it creates damaging gases and repurpose it as high-quality compost. Our green waste is collected and taken to a processing facility to be turned into high-quality, nutrient-rich compost to use in gardens. Composting is a natural process of decomposition and a great way to reuse waste.
Wheelie Bin Tags
We're actively reducing plastic waste by trialling wheelie bin tags as a sustainable alternative to rubbish bags. These tags offer multiple environmental benefits compared to bags. Firstly, they significantly lower plastic waste by eliminating the need for single-use bags. By opting for wheelie bin tags, we reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills. Moreover, wheelie bins excel in durability, preventing breakage and the scattering of litter in our communities.
